Come summer, two sections of the Route Verte (“green route”) reopen to give cyclists a choice of 25 possible trails: the Parc linéaire des Bois-Francs and the Circuit des Traditions, a part of which runs alongside the lovely Rivière Saint-François. Twice yearly, Baie-du-Febvre plays host to a stunning natural phenomenon: hundreds of thousands of snow geese, making their spring and fall migratory stopovers on the banks of Lac Saint-Pierre (a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve). Springtime also sees the sap start to rise at Plessisville, the world’s maple syrup capital! Centre-du-Québec has been marked by the rich cultural heritage of the many peoples who passed through: the Abenaki, French, Irish, Scots and Loyalists. Follow the Celtic Way and discover the settlements of the first Scotch and Irish colonists. At the lively Village québécois d'antan in Drummondville, immerse yourself in the traditions of the years 1810 through 1910 in this typical old-time Québec village. Take advantage of your proximity to Victoriaville to tour the childhood home of an illustrious Canadian Prime Minister at the Laurier House National Historic Site. In nearby Nicolet, you can also see the birthplace of painter and engraver Rodolphe Duguay, one of the 20th century’s great masters of printmaking.
