In terms of scope and spinoffs, the Festival International des Rythmes du Monde de Saguenay is the biggest outdoor cultural/tourism event to hit Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean in the last 50 years. The event brings together over 700 international artists, artisans and musicians from some 15 countries. This gathering that's equally oriented toward families and world music fans attracts over 155,000 festival-goers and generates economic benefits of some $5M annually. Downtown Chicoutimi gives itself over to music and dance and takes on a thoroughly cosmopolitan feel as crowds throng to free shows on four outdoor stages. |
