Montréal's "entertainment district," the Quartier des spectacles, extends for nearly one square kilometre (roughly half a square mile) from its centre point at the junction of Rue Ste-Catherine and Boulevard St-Laurent. This area is home to 30 performance halls totalling almost 28,000 seats, numerous international festivals, art galleries and alternative culture venues.
