Three new exhibitions at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal
The Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal is currently offering abstract art lovers the work of three leading artists who are recognized throughout Québec, Canada and around the world: Francine Savard, Tricia Middleton and Tacita Dean. Simple yet spectacular, technical yet lyrical, their great works provide insight into the essence of this thought-provoking art form.
These three outstanding women, three experienced artists with three new works demonstrating a deep reflection on the process and subject of abstract art, are now being presented to the public.
As soon as the visitor steps through the large doors of the museum, they discover the daring work of Québec artist, Francine Savard, who draws them into a world of continuous change. The artist not only explores the medium of painting, but makes it the subject of her work. Throughout the exhibition, visitors will find numerous references to art history and literature, to the studio, the tools of the trade, pictoral movement and meaning.
Similar to Francine Savard, Middleton ponders the production process in her work through displays borrowing from the sculptural, video and painting contexts. The Canadian artist thus plunges the visitor into the world of novels, science fiction, cinematographic and theatre sets, while Tacita Dean exposes the world though films in which she documents the passage of time. The exhibition, consisting of projections onto six screens that are strategically placed throughout the gallery, stars the famous New York dance company director, and is titled: Merce Cunningham performs STILLNESS.
A rendez-vous you mustn’t miss! On display until January 3, 2010.
