Despite the current cocooning trend and home theatres, the big screen remains the ultimate place this art can be admired in its full splendour. Several festivals are organized in its honour and invite avid movie buffs to take a trip around the world.

From August 27 to September 7, 2014, Québec's metropolis will welcome movie stars to the city for the Montréal World Film Festival. Open to both industry professionals and the public, the festival program puts the spotlight on cultural diversity.

© Festival du nouveau cinémaThe Festival du nouveau cinéma, taking place in Montréal from October 8 to 19, 2014, is dedicated to emerging trends in cinema. It has helped introduce audiences to such filmmakers as Atom Egoyan, Denis Villeneuve, Pedro Aldomovár, Wong Kar-Wai and Peter Greenaway. For 10 consecutive days, cinema, video, performances, multimedia works and interactive installations coexist, to the delight of the public and artists alike.

Works of fiction, animated films and documentaries of varying lengths from many countries, quality premieres and an unparalleled welcome await film enthusiasts who gather each year in Rouyn-Noranda to attend the Festival du cinéma international en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, taking place this fall from October 25 to 30, 2014. Over the years, numerous filmmakers and celebrities have attended this festival, including Claude Lelouch, Serge Gainsbourg and Denys Arcand.
