Snowshoeing, a tradition inherited from the Amerindians, is the perfect way to do your winter hiking this year. But this activity didn’t gain its popularity overnight. In fact, Sherbrooke (in the Eastern Townships) is home to one of North America’s oldest snowshoe clubs, founded in the 1870s.

Photo. Regional parks, national parks, wildlife reserves as well as many private networks offer a wide variety of trails and a wealth of landscapes. A choice of accommodations (cottages, shelters and rustic campgrounds) is usually found along the longer hiking trails. Most of the larger ski resorts will also let you hike up their slopes.
