Go wild, go western

In his 1939 Western cult film Stagecoach, John Ford gave us John Wayne as the manly lead. Sixty eight years later in a tiny town in the Mauricie region, that cowboy tradition is being perpetuated for the enjoyment of the general public. Put on your hats, pilgrims, and get set to put the wagons in a circle at Saint-Tite, September 5 to 14, 2008. Yee-haw!
Welcome to the biggest Western event in Eastern Canada. After 36 years, the cowboys are still in the saddle and they’re raring to go. Join the 400,000-odd folks who attend this event each year at the Saint-Tite Western Festival. No wonder why this city attracts John Ford fans!Man and beast
On the program: 11 professional rodeos. For amateurs: the word "rodeo" doesn’t really say it all; what it does mean is a lot of guys riding very wild bulls or frisky horses. No less than nine different competitive events await these modern-day cowboys. That includes bareback bronc riding, calf roping and rescue racing... and riders who need to be quick, agile, and master their mounts.Call me Cowgirl
Women also have their moment in the spotlight. Throughout this event, the ladies will prove that they can rival men at equestrian sports. The barrel race is the competition par excellence for these female athletes. Sit back, guys, and admire the prowess of the girls.
Showtime
This western festival is also an opportunity familiarize yourself with different kinds of entertainment. Whether it be music or dance, country and western culture is alive and well. During each day of the festival there will be shows, workshops and country dance competitions to complement the equestrian events. The unknown side of rodeo
This is the event to learn everything you ever wanted to know about rodeos and more. A two-hour course will teach you whatever you need to know if you want to become the perfect gaucho! Three tours per day; don’t wait until September 16th because as of the 16th it will be too late. This is your last chance to play cowboy this year. Don’t miss the ride.André Quenneville
