Firing young imaginations

A place for learning, sharing and experimenting, the Canadian Children’s Museum in Gatineau invites young people to journey to a sensational world, discover fascinating locales and hear fabulous stories. Adding to the fun, the Museum has prepared a series of original summer activities. Ready for adventure?
Let’s begin outside with the Canada Garden: 5,500 square metres (59,000 sq. ft.) of magic that pay tribute to Canada’s native flora and geography. Take the time to admire a few sculptures before heading inside.
Welcome to the Canadian Children’s Museum, a stimulating place where imagination, discovery and creativity take centre stage. Thanks to an interactive and hands-on approach - yes, you can touch certain exhibit pieces! - little ones can learn and broaden their minds while being entertained. "Whether they’re building something, creating a work of art or taking part in a musical number, the children learn at their own pace and explore the fields that interest them," explains Kim McDougall, Director of Programmes. "What counts is the creative act, which is given full rein."A treasure chest
The Museum boasts a remarkable permanent collection of 10,000 artifacts and props (games, clothing, art, photos, instruments) that appeal directly to kids.
Without a doubt, the most popular piece is the life-size Pakistani bus, sumptuously decorated to reflect its driver’s charm and enthusiasm over travelling far and wide. Another gem is a spectacular dollhouse that has approximately 900 furnishings and miniatures, some of which date back to 1830!The Great Adventure
For the past 15 years, this permanent exhibition has been taking children on a unique journey. From the moment they pick up their "passport" and plan their itinerary, little adventurers can be sure of playing big roles, whether it’s during a desert trek to a pyramid or a jaunt to a port to help unload a cargo ship. This exhibit offers kids an excellent opportunity to learn about the world and themselves. | Great activities |
