Opened in 1992, the Musée Daniel Weetaluktuk (Daniel Weetaluktuk museum), named for the first Inuit archaeologist in Nunavik, features contemporary Inuit artwork and over 200 archaeological and historical objects testifying to the origin of the Inuits in Nunavik and their rich culture. On the ground floor of this igloo-shaped museum, you will find a circular room featuring temporary theme exhibitions and various educational activities and presentations. The gallery, with its domed ceiling, is a replica of the inside of a period igloo. This igloo was built by Inukjuak elders who in their youth lived in these cleverly built shelters made of blocks of snow. Reservations are required. |
