On a trip to Lac-Saint-Jean in 1912, French author Louis Hémon wrote the novel Maria Chapdelaine, since translated into over 20 languages. The museum recalls the writing of the novel, whose plot unfolds during the period of colonisation. Now one of the largest museum complexes in Québec, the Musée Louis-Hémon (Louis-Hémon museum) has broadened its calling to become a Québec literature museum. This internationally known institution has developed partnerships with several French-speaking countries, including France, as Louis-Hémon was a native of Brittany.
