For country kids at heart!

Photo

Have you been dreaming of a beach holiday? A ski vacation? Something that will take you into the heart of breathtaking nature? Whatever the season, the possibilities for family getaways are practically limitless in Québec's regions!

Paradise on earth... north of Montréal

Rivière Rouge, LaurentidesThe Laurentides and Lanaudière regions welcome visitors of all ages to their holiday havens. You can go cycling along the P'tit Train du Nord linear park, rafting on the Rivière Rouge or shooting down giant waterslides. The Parc national du Mont-Tremblant promises you hours of fun with its vast forests sprinkled with lakes. In the winter, skiing buffs will find great conditions at, among other places, the Saint-Sauveur Valley and Tremblant, known for its pedestrian village that offers direct access to a wide range of activities. Farther north lies Abitibi-Témiscamingue, where large open spaces abound. You can even explore an old gold mine there!

Greenery and nature... south of Montréal

PhotoKids and adults alike will love the superb parks in the Montérégie and the Eastern Townships, to the south of Montréal. One such park, the Parc national du Mont-Mégantic, is equipped with an astronomical observatory. In both regions, you'll enjoy charming bike paths in the summer and downhill ski centres in the winter. You'll also find two zoos in the area: the Granby Zoo, which has a water park as well, and Parc Safari, which you tour by car. If history's your passion, visit Fort Chambly and Fort Lennox, in the Montérégie. In Drummondville, in the Centre-du-Québec region, see how life was lived in a typical 19th-century rural Québec village at the Village québécois d'antan!

The great escape... just outside Québec City

PhotoNot far from downtown Québec City sit imposing mountains that beckon skiing enthusiasts: Sainte-Anne, Stoneham and nearby Le Massif. En route, you can explore the striking Montmorency Falls and the Canyon Sainte-Anne. Valcartier Vacation Village offers a vast array of family activities, including a water park in the summer and snow rafting in the winter. In the Mauricie, be sure to visit the Cité de l'énergie (energy city) in Shawinigan and the Québec Museum of Folk Culture in Trois-Rivières. On the south shore, the Chaudière-Appalaches region invites you to take a cruise to the Grosse Île National Historic Site.

Charlevoix and Saguenay—Lac-Saint-Jean

PhotoEast of Québec City, the route through the Charlevoix region is awe-inspiring: now this is mountain climbing! The Manoir Richelieu, which overlooks the St. Lawrence, dazzles visitors. The Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie, Grands-Jardins and Saguenay national parks are the perfect spots for enjoying all kinds of outdoor activities in enchanting settings. Farther north, Lac Saint-Jean is so vast it resembles an inland sea. In this region you'll discover an historic village, an Aboriginal museum (Mashteuiatsh), a long bike path... and, of course, the renowned Zoo sauvage de Saint-Félicien (wilderness zoo)!

Adventure in maritime Québec

Mingan Archipelago national park reserve of Canada, DuplessisThe maritime Québec regions are bordered by the St. Lawrence, which is the ideal setting for a wide variety of exceptional excursions. On the south shore, in the Bas-Saint-Laurent, you can cycle to your heart's content along the bike path at the Petit Témis linear park. In the Gaspésie, numerous natural attractions such as Percé rock, the Forillon National Park of Canada and the beaches of the Baie des Chaleurs are spectacular vacation destinations. On the north shore, in Manicouagan, you can observe whales during a cruise and visit the impressive Daniel-Johnson dam. Farther northeast, in the Duplessis region, the strangely shaped rocks of the Mingan Archipelago are an extraordinary sight, resembling objects and animals.

Excursions to Gatineau and the Outaouais

Mont-Cascades, CantleyTwo hours from Montréal, across from Ottawa, the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Gatineau and its children's museum are well worth the detour. Also, take the time to hop on over to superb Gatineau Park. On your way back, stop by the Parc Oméga, in Montebello, where, from your car, you can observe deer, moose and other large mammals roaming free!

Are you a fan of sliding? Then head for Mont Cascades, located in Cantley, just 20 minutes from Ottawa-Gatineau. This popular family ski hill is just as sought-after come summer, thanks to its refreshing water slides!
