| Fort Témiscamingue commemorates the role played by this trading post for close to two centuries. It is witness, especially to the major rivalry of the 17th and 18th centuries, between the British and the French for control of the Hudson Bay fur trade. The fort also recalls the thousand-year-old aboriginal presence, the activities of private merchants in the 19th century and the successive fur-trade monopolies held by the NorthWest Company and the Hudson Bay Company in Témiscamingue. ©Parks Canada | |||||||||||
