Laval

Surprising city on a surprising island

Just like Montréal, its neighbour to the south, Laval is an island. It’s also a dynamic region that strikes a harmonious balance between tranquil nature and the bustle and excitement of the city. Rich in green and agricultural spaces, Laval offers those who venture across its bridges innumerable opportunities for escape on the surrounding rivers. Part wildlife reserve, and laced with  Route bleue des voyageurs trails, the Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles is an invitation to take an agreeable break from the urban madness in a canoe, kayak or rabaska. Come winter, the park is the joy of cross-country skiers and skaters.

Activities both educational and fun

The Cosmodôme is a complex given over entirely to conquering space. In its space sciences centre, visitors can travel the solar system, examine a real rocket engine or observe a piece of lunar rock. At the space camp, youngsters can even see what it’s like to walk on the moon, thanks to a NASA-type simulator! The Musée Armand-Frappier initiates adults and children alike into the mysteries of microbiology and biotechnology through an interactive exhibition; The Centre d’interprétation de l’eau gives you an up-close look at the evolution of potable water treatment. Thrill-seekers will definitely want to head to the Centropolis to surf an artificial wave or leap into the void… in complete safety!
