Great snow just across the border!
Located in the province of Québec, across from Québec City and north of the states of Maine and New Hampshire on the Canadian side of the border, the Chaudière‑Appalaches tourism region is easily accessible by car or by snowmobile. Its main cities are Lac‑Etchemin, Lévis, Montmagny, Saint-Georges and Thetford Mines.
Since the invention of the snowmobile, the Chaudière-Appalaches region has been known as one of the best snowmobiling destinations around. Between the 1950s and 1970s, more than 15 manufacturers operated in the region, including Snow Jet, Boa-Ski and Moto Jet. This explains the popularity of snowmobiling in Chaudière-Appalaches.
From the beginning, American snowmobilers adopted the region, with many joining local snowmobile clubs each year. In fact, in the 2010-2011 season, 730 American snowmobilers joined snowmobile clubs in the region, and many more snowmobilers who bought trail permits from different clubs in the province of Québec visited the Chaudière‑Appalaches region over the winter.
The region has 2,700 km (1,680 mi.) of trails that are marked and groomed by 24 snowmobile clubs, totalling 9,172 members in 2010-2011.
The Chaudière-Appalaches offers you opportunities to loop back or make daisy trails without having to ride on the same trails. That is why many snowmobilers choose the region—because they can set out each day from the same accommodation site and explore many different routes without having to carry their luggage.
The geographical diversity of the region is absolutely unrivalled. The sugar bushes, the plain of the St. Lawrence River, the valley of the Chaudière and the Etchemin rivers, and the Appalachian Mountains allow you to ride on unique trails and offer you an unobstructed view of the towns and territories from the tops of their white peaks.
The quantity of snow is abundant and the length of the season is usually from mid‑December until mid-March.
In addition to superb trails, the Chaudière-Appalaches region offers plenty of services, including top-quality accommodations with snowmobile packages, a vast selection of restaurants, numerous gas stations, rental outlets and dealers offering every make of snowmobile.
Come and experience one of the most beautiful regions for snowmobiling in North America.
This is the Chaudière-Appalaches region.
