By train

With several departures daily, the most popular train is the one connecting Montréal and Québec City. You can also enjoy a longer ride by hopping on one of the trains departing for Gaspé, Saguenay or Senneterre three times weekly (see map below).

Train excursions

Two tourist trains invite you to discover, from May to October:

the Mont Orford countryside, Magog and Sherbrooke (Eastern Townships): the Orford Express.
the Gatineau valley (Outaouais): the Hull-Chelsea-Wakefield steam-powered train

The Agence métropolitaine de transport also offers several train tours around Montréal (Laval, Laurentides, Montérégie) between mid-June and the end of October.

DID YOU KNOW?

A railway tunnel nearly 5 km (3 mi.) in length, inaugurated in 1918, runs beneath Mont Royal (230 m / 755 ft.) and was initially used by trains pulling out of Montréal’s Central Station for Ottawa and Toronto. Today it serves the commuter rail network.
