Sugaring-off season is here! This long-awaited moment marks the arrival of spring and delicious outings to our famous maple groves. Live in or visiting the city of Québec and area? Here are 10 places less than 2 hours from the Centre Infotouriste de Québec you can visit to savour authentic maple treats.

1. Érablière le Chemin du Roy

🚗 25 minutes

This recreational and tourist maple grove in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures is open year-round. However, early spring is still the best time to enjoy their all-you-can-eat sugar shack meal. It’s accompanied by traditional music that will make you want to get up and dance to help you digest your feast. Guided tours are also available to explore their authentic facilities dating back to the 1920s.

Good to know: Several gluten-free options are available.

2. Érablière du Lac‑Beauport

🚗 30 minutes

A visit to the Érablière du Lac-Beauport is both educational and fun! This family-run operation not only serves sugar shack meals year-round, but it also features the Musée de l’érable, where you can learn all about the history of maple syrup, going back to its Indigenous roots. The new Camp du trappeur, an interpretation centre dedicated to Québec’s animals, features around 40 naturalized species that you can safely observe up close.

3. Érablière du Cap

Who says you can’t celebrate sugaring-off season in July? Although the height of the season is in early spring, Érablière du Cap in Lévis offers guided tours, meals and maple taffy on snow year-round. Animal lovers can even treat themselves to a dream package by adding a hike with an alpaca. It’s a family-friendly tourist destination that’s as unique as it is delicious!

Good to know: Vegetarian and gluten-free menus are available. Dogs on leashes are allowed outside.

4. Cabane à sucre Chabot

🚗 40 minutes

Boasting one of the most charming sugar shacks in the region, Cabane à sucre Chabot (in French only) is a great reason to head to Neuville to sample its traditional dishes and maple taffy on snow. A friendly atmosphere, a mini-farm, sleigh rides and boiler tours complete the experience. They even organize a themed event in April for country music fans.

Good to know: A vegetarian menu and several gluten-free options are available.

5. Sucrerie Blouin

🚗 40 minutes

Located on Île d’Orléans, in the heart of the St. Lawrence River, this stunning spot (in French only) promises an unforgettable sugar shack experience in an enchanting setting! Tapping is done using buckets, and the sap is boiled over a wood fire, just like in the old days. Ponies, rabbits, chickens, roosters, goats and sheep join in the fun, delighting young and old alike.

6. Le Relais des Pins

🚗 30 minutes

Also located on scenic Île d’Orléans, this sugar shack has kept its family’s traditions alive for four generations and offers a true culinary journey. There’s no need to come in large groups here. You can easily book a table for two to enjoy the sugar shack experience, which is available year-round. Many homemade products are sold on site, so you can take some treats with you to enjoy later.

7. Cabane festive – Au Chalet en Bois rond

🚗 1 hour and 15 minutes

The tourist village of Sainte-Christine-d’Auvergne is the ideal spot for a stroll and a stop at its festive sugar shack which has been authentically preserved and still operates according to traditional methods, using spouts and buckets. You can enjoy the fruits of their labour from March to April, but it’s also worth a visit at other key times of the year, such as during lobster season and over the holidays.

8. Le Bistreau d’érable

🚗 1 hour and 45 minutes

Head to Chaudière-Appalaches to discover the bistronomic experience on offer at this sugar shack. Starting in late February, you can take a seat and enjoy a traditional menu from yesteryear, prepared with ingredients sourced from local farmers. There are also loads of other activities available, ranging from guided tours of the sugar bush to maple butter-making workshops and maple taffy tastings.

Good to know: A vegetarian menu is available. An indoor play area is provided for children.

9. Cabane à sucre Du-Bois-é

🚗 1 hour and 25 minutes

Venture into the Mauricie region, located halfway between the city of Québec and Montréal. Located in the heart of major tourist routes and convenient to highways, the Du-Bois-é estate has a unique charm and can accommodate large groups looking for a sugar fix in its two dining rooms. In this peaceful setting, you can taste maple syrup at its best thanks to the use of traditional and ancestral production methods. The chef prepares everything on site, taking care to highlight local products.

10. Domaine du Sucrier

🚗 1 hour and 50 minutes

At the edge of a 30-acre forest, take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life and soak up the moment. In this warm and welcoming sugar shack located in an enchanting setting in the Mauricie countryside, a traditional all-you-can-eat menu is served—in porcelain dishes, no less! Featuring a farmstead, music and occasional performances by a folk singer, people gather here for brunch, lunch or dinner. You can even bring your own alcoholic beverages, which is rare!
