The town was named for a silver goblet worth three ‘pistoles,’ an old French coin, that was lost in the river.
Trois-Pistoles is known today for its magnificent natural surroundings. The river and islands are jewels to discover on a cruise or by kayak. History has also made its mark: archaeological sites bear witness to the presence of Indigenous peoples and Basque fishermen in the distant past.
