It’s now a well-known fact that when it comes to beer making, Québecers are in high gear! Microbreweries and hop producers have proliferated exponentially in the last 25 years. Québec is now home to more than 150 microbreweries and over 30 hop producers offering high-quality products. We’ve come a long way since the traditional alcoholic spruce beer made by the early settlers!
Things are brewing in Québec!
Brewed for the most part using classic French, Belgian and British techniques, Québec beers stand out from the majority of U.S. beers through their long fermentation.
Lager, Pilsener, porters, stouts and white beers are just a few examples of the many, many types of beers brewed in Québec. Some beers such as 25e Blonde de l'Enfer by Unibroue, Miss Ghost by the Microbrasserie La Pécheresse, L'Hérisson by the Microbrasserie Le Trou du diable, Sticke Alt by the Microbrasserie Les Trois Mousquetaires even earned prestigious prizes at the World Beer Awards held in London in 2018.
Take part in one of Québec’s many beer festivals and taste the wide variety of brews available. Enjoy the lively, friendly atmosphere and meet producers who will be delighted to answer your questions and share their expertise. What’s more, you can learn all about the brewing trade by visiting and touring certain brewing companies. Road trips such as the “beer routes” running through the Eastern Townships and eastern Québec are chock-full of discoveries. Broue-Tours also offers guided tours of Québec City’s craft breweries. Learn all about the production processes and their history and taste the brews. Bottoms up!
