Good places to eat and drink local food in the city of Québec

Exploring the city of Québec isn't just about diving into history. It’s also about experiencing a real culinary adventure! Exquisite dishes, prepared with fresh, local ingredients, enjoyed in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

The city's talented chefs creatively compete to offer unique taste experiences, ranging from Québec classics to modern innovations. Each meal becomes a feast for the taste buds, where flavours blend harmoniously, creating unforgettable memories. And why not continue the evening with a drink? Here are some suggestions for divine dining and drinking.

Cuisine that tastes like home

We certainly have our culinary specialities like poutine, pea soup, smoked meat, bagels, cretons, baked beans, and pouding chômeur, but we also have flavours from our forests with boreal cuisine. It consists of dishes cooked with local and often wild products. It has a hint of Nordic nature. It's a speciality of ours. We've compiled a short list of restaurants so you can taste it all. Bon appétit!

Local and boreal cuisine

  • Chez Boulay – Bistro Boréal, for gourmet dishes by chefs Jean-Luc Boulay and Arnaud Marchand.
  • Légende and Tanière3, for their organic cuisine from Québec and their creativity.
  • Le Clan, for exceptional dishes alongside mysterious beasts.
  • La Planque, where you can take shelter, sitting in front of a plate filled with local and seasonal products.
  • Bistro hortus, for its 100% gluten-free and nut-free farm-to-table menu.

Traditional cuisine

You may have heard about it: we love the flavours of the sea! That’s because there is a huge pantry nearby (hello, St. Lawrence River!). Fish, shrimp, lobster, scallops, crab and much more, anyone?

The St. Lawrence on the plate

  • Kraken Cru, for its seafood and fresh oysters year-round.
  • jjacques, for its aura of mystery and its three-tiered seafood platters.

Public market

Looking for an experience that's out of the ordinary? Local restaurateurs are full of ideas and strive to make your meal a memorable event.

An eccentric experience

  • Le Ciel, for its 360-degree view of the river, mountains and all Québec tourist attractions and to savour reinvented local dishes.
  • Sagamité, to discover First Nations gastronomy as part of a cultural and gourmet experience.

Discover the night in a different light

As night falls, the narrow streets of Old Québec and surroundings light up under the glow of street lamps. Microbreweries, night clubs and bars start singing and dancing. Ghosts come out of the shadows to tell us their stories and small occult bars discreetly open their secret doors to us...
