Places to stay and things to do while vacationing with your pooch

For us, the family dog is nothing less than a full-fledged family member. Going on an adventure without your four‑legged sidekick? That’s simply not an option! 

Luckily, there are more and more places to stay with our furry companions. On top of that, there are loads of activities you can do with them, and some may even surprise you with their originality. From the four corners of Québec, here are our suggestions for places where you and your best friend can lay your heads before or after setting off on an adventure in total freedom.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue

Description

🏨: Hôtel Albert par G5 is a chic spot located in Rouyn-Noranda, perfect for urban pooches who still enjoy an excursion in the woods. Additional charges apply for canine friends.

🐾: We’re visiting Parc national d’Aiguebelle, a geological jewel where, in authorized areas, your dog’s olfactory senses can happily explore 2.7‑billion‑year‑old rocks.

Bas-Saint-Laurent

🐾: Discover Parc national du Bic. This coastal park is a true paradise for lovers of wide open spaces, with its capes, bays and islands. Several trails are accessible to leashed dogs. For water sports enthusiasts, please note that your four-footed friends are only allowed in personal watercraft (permitted in the natural environment zones of Baie du Ha! Ha! and Havre‑du‑Bic).

Eastern Townships

Description

🏨: Opt for Hôtel Estrimont in Orford. A peaceful haven boasting a spa, swimming pools and spacious suites. The ideal spot for a relaxing weekend. Dogs are allowed in certain units and stay free of charge when you book directly online. Fido has a feline friend? She’s welcome, too!

🐾: Hiking in Parc national du Mont-Orford. Not only is it just a few kilometres from the Estrimont, but this park allows leashed dogs on several trails, with exclusive views of the mountain. That’s a promise!

Centre-du-Québec

Description

🏨: Settle in at Quality Inn & Suites in Victoriaville. In this cozy hotel, dogs are treated like VIPs (very important pets)!

🐾: The Parc régional des Grandes-Coulées will satisfy doggy desires for vast expanses. Among other things, this includes the Forêt ancienne sector where the mossy scents and 12 km of old forest trails are sure to please your furry pal.

Charlevoix

Description

🏨: Hébergement Charlevoix offers a wide range of dog-friendly cottages. With splendid views, spas and roaring log fires, fields to run in and spaces to lounge in, there’s something for everyone.

🐾: A hike at Le Massif de Charlevoix, a recreational mountain that’s a literal playground between river and mountain. Concerned about Fido’s paws becoming sore from climbing to the top? Not to worry, even the gondolas are dog-friendly.

Chaudière-Appalaches

Description

⛺: In Sainte-Lucie-de-Beauregard, Camping du mont Sugar Loaf offers private campsites at the foot of the mountain. Unserviced sites for tents and RVs are available, as are ready‑to‑camp sites. Forest camping, mountain scenery and hiking—it doesn’t get any better!

🐾: Parc régional des Appalaches, a veritable jewel of nature in the heart of the Chaudière-Appalaches region. The area is home to over 130 km of trails through mountains, lakes and rivers. The panoramic view of Mont Sugar Loaf is breathtaking. And there’s no need to rack your brains over where to go: dogs are welcome everywhere!

Côte-Nord

Description

🏨: The classic Hôtel Gouverneur Sept-Îles with all amenities welcomes dogs (and cats!), provided they weigh no more than 20 kg. 

🐾: A stroll along Ferguson beach. Just a stone’s throw from the hotel, this golden beach is a good reason to go for a run in the sand and dip paws in the salt water. Keep in mind that if you feel the cold easily, the water remains chilly in this part of the St. Lawrence River, even at the height of summer.

Eeyou Istchee Baie-James

🐾: The Parc linéaire de Radisson (French only) showcases the beauty of the northern landscape. The nearly 2.5 km ecological trail ends at a lookout offering an incredible panoramic view. Here you can contemplate the immense wilderness that is the Eeyou Istchee Baie-James territory, the expanse of the Grande Rivière and the depth of the Robert-Bourassa generating station (formerly known as LG-2).

Gaspésie

Description

🏨: Facing the sea, the Manoir Belle Plage in Carleton-sur-Mer features rooms overlooking the bay and direct access to the beach. The area is also renowned for its local cuisine and spectacular sunsets. Dogs are permitted in the rooms on the mountain side, on the first floor, as well as in the Cullen House apartments.

🐾: Enjoy a walk at Parc de la Pointe Tracadigash. This coastal park invites Fido to wander its seaside paths and beckons him to take a break on a bench to enjoy the sunset with his human best friend.

Îles-de-la-Madeleine

Description

🏨: The Blanche de l’Ouest, on Île du Havre Aubert. Nestled in the peaceful Étang-des-Caps area, this typical island home (built in 1917 and renovated in 2021) can accommodate up to 10 guests, as well as your canine best friend.

🐾: Take a stroll in the Dune de l’Ouest sector. The beach right next to the house is a literal playground for dogs. Expect to feel the wind in your ears!

Lanaudière

Description

🏨: For luxury living in the heart of nature, Chalets Zenya are a great destination! Zen base camps for stressed humans and chill dogs. On the program: spa, forest and silence... likely interspersed with your pooch’s joyous squirrel-watching. Surely the squirrels will understand his admiration!

🐾: Nothing beats taking in the impressive 18-metre-high waterfall at Parc régional de la Chute-à-Bull. It’s the ideal spot to meditate or simply cool off by the water.

Laurentides

This green space, which lends itself to a host of recreational and educational activities, welcomes outdoor enthusiasts in all seasons.

Mauricie

Description

🏨: In Mauricie as in many other regions, dogs are beloved. That’s why a large number of cottages (French only), both luxurious and rustic, are dog-friendly.

🐾: Explore Parc des Chutes de Sainte-Ursule, with its spectacular waterfalls and trails seemingly created for curious sniffers. Here, the Rivière Maskinongé boasts seven distinct, succeeding waterfalls. Some are cascading, others roar between rock faces, and the most imposing is 30 metres high.

Montréal
