When to take in the peak fall colours: our 2025 forecasts

Armed with our most powerful crystal ball, we played fortune-teller to answer a popular question as summer draws to a close: when will the fall colours hit their peak? Here are our 2025 regional forecasts!

Estimated progression by region

As our clairvoyant powers have yet to be perfected, we turned to our contacts in the field for help. Thanks to data our contributors collected in 2023 and 2024 for our interactive fall colours map, we can now help you track down the most breathtaking landscapes.

For each region, we’ve pinpointed the top two periods for soaking up fall’s vibrant colours in full transformation:

  • Mid-peak: the landscape should be 50% to 70% covered in fall colours.
  • Peak: the landscape should be 70% to 100% covered in fall colours.

More precise tracking during the season

The periods indicated are expected to be ideal for catching fall’s vibrant colours, but it’s important to remember that Mother Nature moves at her own pace. How long the fall foliage lasts depends on weather conditions. For example, heavy wind and rain can cause leaves to fall more quickly.

To help you make the most of nature’s gorgeous transformation this season, be sure to check our interactive fall colours map, which is updated weekly from September onwards.
