Chisasibi is the last Cree community in the Eeyou Istchee Baie-James region that is accessible by car.
It’s definitely far away, but the change of scene is worth the trip! Meaning “Great River,” Chisasibi has been nestled on the river of the same name since 1980. The community used to be located on Fort George Island in James Bay, where vestiges of this former fur trading post can be found.
