After the winter’s first heavy snowfall, we waste no time hitting the trails!

We just strap on our skis, snowshoes or crampons, and we’re off! Québec’s unique combination of lakes, mountains, rivers, hills and the St. Lawrence offers stunning Nordic landscapes. A number of shelters are available where you can rest or spend the night.

Seasons

We generally practise cross-country skiing, alpine trekking and snowshoeing from mid-December to mid-March, depending on Mother Nature, of course.

Some businesses offer luggage transport on certain long trails.

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing spots

  • Québec’s national parks (Sépaq) offer about 450 km of marked, mechanically groomed trails. Some regional and municipal parks also offer fun excursions for the entire family.

  • Many downhill ski centres offer cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails. There’s something for everyone.

  • Our highest mountains reach heights ranging from 800 m to 1,192 m. Mont Gosford is the tallest and has a 14 km snowshoeing trail. And then there is Parc national des Monts-Valin, whose mountaintop is home to ghosts...

  • Snowshoeing trails from 100 km to 1,000 km in length enable more adventurous trekkers to discover the full beauty of our wilderness. The National Trail in Québec (SNQ) crosses nine of Québec’s tourist regions, running through national and regional parks as well as controlled harvesting zones, outfitters and private property.
