Ice fishing, fishing under the ice, or pêche blanche as it’s known here... whatever you call it, we’re hooked!

You can go ice fishing on practically any Québec lake. Parks, wildlife reserves and outfitters are prized sites. Our small decorated huts shelter you from the cold (some are heated). They’re very cozy and, like us, colourful. You can rent them fully equipped. Get your tip-ups ready!

Seasons

Mother Nature lets us get together for ice fishing from January to mid-March. It’s always important to be cautious and to verify the ice’s thickness.

Did you know?

The fishing village Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade has over 500 huts.

Where to Fish in Winter?

  • Outfitters are a great option for ice fishing. Several of them provide visitors with heated cabins and the necessary equipment. Why not take the opportunity to treat yourself to a short overnight stay and meal to benefit from the other activities on site? Turnkey fun!

  • Some of Québec’s national parks and wildlife reserves offer the opportunity to play with the fish in the winter season. Speckled trout bite even in cold weather. They are really not chilly!

  • Once our lakes are frozen, you can see groups of small colourful cabins settling there. Inside, warm by the wood stove, you can catch some great catches. The ice fishing villages of Anse-à-Benjamin and Grande-Baie in Saguenay form the largest site of its kind in the world! It is also possible to fish in inflatable igloos on the Bassin Louise in Old Québec. One-of-a-kind.

  • The real name of the petit poisson des chenaux is the Atlantic tomcod, measuring on average between 15 and 30 centimetres. Its fishing is so popular with us that we have made it into a festival. Fish are mainly caught from a large village of cabins in Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade in Mauricie.
